London, England is served by a selection if airports and knowing which one to choose according to your needs, can potentially save you a lot of time or money. Below we look at all of the options for flying to and from London with each airport serving the city, looked at.
Heathrow Airport – One of the world’s top 10 busiest airports, Heathrow accounts for helping literally millions of people each year, to fly in and out of the English capital. The real benefit of flying from Heathrow is its connection to the London Underground and Heathrow Express train service. This airport has the biggest choice of airlines and destinations and if you want the airport with the best connections to central London, Heathrow is a good option.
Gatwick Airport – The second largest airport serving the capital. Gatwick Airport is an excellent alternative to Heathrow and also serves several hundred destinations worldwide. Is you are travelling to or from the South East or South of London (i.e. to places such as Brighton and Hove) then Gatwick can be the easiest option. Some low cost airlines also fly out of Gatwick and not Heathrow hence Gatwick’s additional benefit. There are good bus connections from central London to both Gatwick and Heathrow i.e. from Victoria Bus and Coach station.
Stansted Airport – A little more awkward to get to compared to the two main airports, Stansted gets a lot of traffic because of its popularity with budget airlines. Ryanair and Easyjet both offer flights out of Stansted, given that this airport offers lower rent for airlines. Many people prefer to offer the longer coach ride to Stansted but this offer can often mean lower flight costs.
London City Airport – For domestic flights and private flights, City Airport located near the Docklands. You can fly to locations including Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich and Ibiza from this airport. This is an easy enough airport to get to via the Docklands Light Rail System. This is a handy little airport and much easier and faster to get through customs and around the airport than the larger London airports.
Luton London Airport – Not really in London but now with the word ‘London’ added to its name to promote the fact that the airport can act as somewhere which serves the capital, Luton London airport is another popular location for budget airlines and fliers. If you are more concerned with the flight costs rather than time, Luton can offer some very competitively prices flights and is worth consideration.
